SeaSide in North Myrtle Beach

May 2010 Newsletter, Volume 4, No 5

The calendar date of June 21st marks the official first day of summer, yet here along the Carolina coastline, everything that defines summer is right on target. The beach buzzes with activity such as the assembly of the OD Pavilion Amusement Park, the "hippo" water slide, and outdoor dining. Colorful storefront windows show off their displays along Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, and locals are beginning to make regular treks to the shoreline. Soon, the laughter of children of all ages will be bouncing off the dunes as summer truly gets under way following the last day of the school season.

Ah, SUMMER! Most people of any age can hardly wait for that carefree energy that warm weather brings, perfect for coming to the beach! With flip flops, summer clothing, and a cool beverage, we slip once again into that relaxed time of year when people want to sleep late, let their minds wander, and generally release their winter stresses. That's LIFE AT THE BEACH.

If you did not have a chance to celebrate Mother's Day here at SeaSide, consider treating Dad to Father's Day at the beach! Only weeks away, June 18th makes a great opportunity to treat your favorite guy, perhaps to some golf, fishing, a great seafood meal, or any of the many and varied options that the Grand Strand has to offer.

Happy Almost-Summer, Everyone!

News and Happenings at Seaside

Chamber Promotion Tour

SeaSide is one of the active sponsors of the North Myrtle Beach Promotion Tour from May 17-20. With a great deal of media coverage and cooperation from the weather, hearty Chamber and hospitality representatives spent those days cruising through cities in North and South Carolina to encourage people to vacation here. "Twice the Fun, Half the Distance - Experience North Myrtle Beach" is their theme. Check out the details at www.ExperienceNorthMyrtleBeach.com.

Facebook at Seaside

Having grown from a college/university "community" on the internet, the 2010 version of Facebook serves us a social networking cyber directory, with privacy settings and guidelines for protecting participants' information. We tell our guests that they can find old friends there, stay in touch, and also share information because that is also the place where we, as an organization, can share our announcements, events, and last-minute discounts. For people on vacation, Facebook provides a wonderfully easy way of making a virtual online scrapbook of photos, comments, anecdotes, and other links that would take most of us hours or days to assimilate in conventional methods.

Yes, Facebook was created for individuals, yet you can link to us as a "fan." This networking capability has been one of our key methods for circulating what our guests tell us again and again that they want to know.

So don't miss out on those money-saving announcements that we post on Facebook. Link to us as a "fan" today!

Groups at Seaside

The Witte Herberth Wedding Party convened at SeaSide during the past month. Thank you to each member of this group for selecting us as your oceanfront location for your wonderful event. May the bride and groom enjoy every happiness and prosperity in their years ahead.

Fun Facts

On the planet Earth, there are between 50,000 and 200,000+ shells with live "critters" in them. We know about most of them, but some have yet to be discovered.

Scientists use fossil shells to tell what the climate might have been like millions of years ago. They compare the fossils to modern shells to see what one has that the other does not.

When we hold a large seashell up to our ear, sounds that remind us of waves at the seashore come to mind. Shells, however, do not produce wave sounds, only echoes. The shell we hold to our ear resonates sounds around it and jumbles them. If we listen in a shell while at the seaside, we hear the sea. If we listen in a shell while in a crowded room, we hear a blur of people talking. If we listen to a shell in a completely soundproof room, we hear nothing at all.

On dry land, slugs also have shells, but not everyone loves slugs as much as sea animals. Therefore, not everyone might wonder why slugs have slime. However, for the one or two who might harbor some curiosity, slugs have slime for movement, defense, water retention, reproduction, and nutrition.

Want to pack only one beach toy, not an entire collection? How about the versatile Frisbee disc! Look at the many uses it has at the beach:
  • Collect shells in them
  • Dig holes
  • Play throwing games
  • Float in the ocean
  • Pour water from them
  • Put under your head while sunbathing
  • Shield your eyes while sunbathing
  • Mold sand-castle sections

This hotel is right on the beach and we stayed in the 1 bedroom condo and it was so nice. Room was very clean and we had no problems. The view was amazing from the balcony......they could see the ocean on one side and the strip ocean blvd on the other. Pools were well kept up and very nice. Beds sleep really well and no bugs. Really awesome place for the price. We will be going back next summer!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 3 girlfriends, plenty of room. Great security. Location beach front, and right across from supermarket. Pool area clean with great rest room facilities and plenty of lounge chairs. Well-kept up. Can't wait to go back next year.

We stayed at the seaside last year, we really enjoyed it very much. We come to the beach every year and usually stay somewhere different every time .We stay where our money lets us stay. They were really nice to us when we were there. We are planning on coming back in Oct. this year .So maybe we will stay there again.
