Looking for something fun to do in Myrtle Beach that doesn’t have to do with the beach or shopping? How about an eye-catching castle in the middle of Myrtle Beach’s beautiful Huntington Beach State Park. It’s in this unlikely locale that you’ll find Atalaya Castle, the one-time Winter home of famed industrialist Archer M. Huntington and his equally well known wife, the sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington.
The way we recommend you experience this literal “castle in the sand” is by taking an audio tour, and trust us, the extra few dollars you’ll pay to rent the equipment is well worth it. The rooms of Atalaya Castle will come alive as you learn the history behind the mysterious place and its former inhabitants. Additionally, the surrounding Huntington Beach State Park has plenty of bird-watching and nature trails for you and your favorite pooch (just remember to pick up after them and keep them on a leash).
Atalaya Castle is open from 9am to 5pm daily, and costs $2 per adult ($4 for the audio tour) with free admission for children under 5 years old.
